William Byrd 1539–1623

The Early Music Hawaii Ensemble
Alec Schumacker, director

William Byrd died in July 1623, honored today as the foremost composer of the Elizabethan age and prime architect of the sacred and secular music of the English Reformation. Despite his Catholic leanings, he was Elizabeth’s favorite, equally admired for his Latin motets and masses, English anthems, art songs and works for keyboard and instrumental ensembles. EMH’s own artists bring you a rich tapestry of his prolific output.
